How MailBasketMD Works

Exchange 2000/2003 uses an enhanced version of the Internet Information Server's SMTP service to send and receive external email. MailBasketMD monitors the SMTP service - when an inbound message arrives it checks each recipient against all email addresses in Active Directory. If an incoming address isn't found, MailBasketMD processes it according to the settings for domain it has been sent to.

MailBasketMD handles multiple recipients in messages smoothly. If a message has a combination of valid and invalid addresses then MailBasketMD will deliver the message to the valid addresses and send a copy of the message to the "catch-all" mailbox for each domain with an invalid address.

MailBasketMD is an ActiveX DLL that runs as a COM+ application. It consumes no system resources between activations, nor does it interfere with the Exchange server's processing of internal emails in any way.

How MailBasketMD is Priced

MailBasketMD licenses are sold on a per-server basis, regardless of the number of mailboxes, domain names or SMTP email addresses an organization has. One license is necessary for each Exchange 2000/2003 server that receives Internet email. Licenses are not needed for "back end" servers that do not receive Internet email.

Hardware & Software Requirements

MailBasketMD requires Microsoft Windows 2000 Server or Advanced Server with Service Pack 4 or higher or Windows 2003 Server or Enterprise Server and either Exchange 2000 with Service Pack 3 or higher or Exchange 2003. Any server that meets the minimum requirements for Exchange 2000/2003 will also support MailBasketMD. Of course, as with any software, more powerful hardware will result in better performance.

Please note that MailBasketMD does not work with POP3 connectors. These connectors typically bypass the SMTP service when retrieving mail and/or modify the internal format of the message in such a way that it is not recognized as an SMTP message.

MailBasketMD is not certified for use in a clustered environment, nor has it been tested with Microsoft Windows 2000 Datacenter Server.
